CIS SUMMIT POSTPONED AGAIN.

Russian president Boris Yeltsin’s office and the Executive Secretary of the CIS, Ivan Korotchenya, announced in separate statements over the weekend that the planned CIS summit is being "tentatively" rescheduled for January 29-31. The event, intended to mark the fifth anniversary of the CIS, had already been rescheduled for January 17 from the originally planned date of December 17. Yeltsin’s office and Korotchenya cited conflicting engagements by Uzbek president Islam Karimov and other presidents as the reason for postponing the Moscow summit. They did not mention Yeltsin’s illness as a reason for the rescheduling. (Itar-Tass, January 10-12)
