KOZYREV, LAKE DISCUSS YUGOSLAVIA CONFLICTS.

US nationalsecurity adviser Anthony Lake and Russia’s foreign minister AndreiKozyrev conferred August 14 in Sochi on the conflicts in formerYugoslavia. They appeared to agree on the need for a Contact Groupmeeting to discuss political solutions to the conflict, but disagreedabout the economic sanctions currently in effect against the rumpYugoslav federation. Kozyrev called for an early lifting of the sanctions, purportedly "to encourage the reasonable forcesaround [Serbian president Slobodan] Milosevic." From Sochi,Lake flew to Ankara for consultations with Turkish prime ministerTansu Ciller and Foreign Minister Erdal Inonu.
