75 PERCENT OF AEROSPACE, NUCLEAR SCIENTISTS WANT TO EMIGRATE.

Publication: Monitor Volume: 1 Issue: 6

Three-quarters of all scientists working in the aerospace and nuclear fields would like to work abroad, although most indicate that they would eventually return to Russia, Kuranty reported May 5. Such a brain drain–which also affects other scientific fields could leave Russia a “retarded country,” the paper said. This growing desire to work abroad reflects declining budgets for science in the Russian Federation: appropriations for scientific research have fallen more than 70 percent since 1985.
