BAKU WILL LEASE RADAR SITE TO MOSCOW AFTER KARABAGH SETTLEMENT.

Publication: Monitor Volume: 1 Issue: 6

Denying earlier reports that Baku already had signed an agreement to lease the Gabelin radar facility to the Russian military, Azerbaijani authorities said that any lease would only come into force after the Karabakh war had been resolved, Segodnya reported May 5. Baku’s statement is intended to pressure Moscow into helping to end the war; but the conflict between last week’s claim that a deal had been struck and this week’s denial may only be a question of semantics. According to the Moscow paper, Russian officers continue to man the early warning radar at Gabelin.
