FIRST ROUND FINAL RESULTS PUBLISHED.

Russia’s Central Election Commission has published the final figures for the first round of voting on June 16. The 69.8 percent turnout among Russia’s 108.5 million voters was lower than predicted. Yeltsin won a total of 26.6 million votes (35.3 percent) while Zyuganov got 24.2 million (32.1 percent). Aleksandr Lebed got 11 million (14.5 percent), Grigory Yavlinsky 5.5 million (7.3 percent), and Vladimir Zhirinovsky 4.3 million (5.7 percent). (Itar-Tass, June 20)
