Russia’s Atomic Energy Ministry is lobbying Bulgarian officials to win a place in an international consortium being formed to complete the Belena nuclear power plant, ministry sources said June 25. The Soviet Union had been involved in the original construction efforts, but work on the plant was halted five years ago because of financial problems and then the dissolution of the USSR.
