When CPSU General Secretary Mikhail Gorbachev launched his program of perestroika, he had to contend with what the press called "Brezhnev’s dinosaurs" — leaders, like Ukrainian first secretary Volodymyr Shcherbitsky, who resisted ceding their places to younger, reform-minded cadres.

Now Russian paleontologists digging near Shestakovo in western Siberia have announced the discovery of a dinosaur graveyard containing vast fossilized remains, with an average age of 70 million years. (7) Novosibirsk museum director Igor Grebnev called the site a great discovery, adding that the question of how this dinosaur cemetary came to be still needs an answer. Perhaps this is where the hidebound holdouts of a bygone era found their place of eternal rest.
