RUSSIAN BLACK SEA FLEET NUCLEAR CAPABLE BUT NOT NUCLEAR ARMED.

Adm. Viktor Kravchenko, the commander of the Russian Black Sea Fleet, said yesterday that although there are no nuclear weapons on board his ships, the fleet "can carry nuclear weapons if necessary." He said that personnel are trained to deliver such weapons and that ships and facilities are prepared to store them. In late 1991 the U.S. and the Soviet Union pledged to remove all tactical nuclear weapons from naval vessels. (Interfax, June 17)
