SWEDEN WON’T SELL WEAPONS TO ESTONIA…

Swedish deputy foreign ministerPierre Schori told officials in Tallinn that Stockholm will not sell weaponsto the Estonians but will help them redevelop the Paldiski harbor, BNSreported May 12. The news service reported, however, that Stockholm hadrecently given a patrol boat to Lithuania. In his meetings, Schori pressedthe Balts to take control of their borders: smuggling is up more than 100% inthe past year in Latvia and Lithuania, and by 28.6% in Estonia. The problemsof organized crime in this region were underscored when a car bomb killed twoin Tallinn May 12 and an assassin killed a leading banker in Riga the daybefore.
