Lt. General Valery Yevnevich, commander of Russia’s forces in Moldova yesterday renewed the demand that Moldova grant those forces a peacekeeping mandate. (Dnestrovskaya pravda, March 4, cited by Interfax). Moscow ignores its January pledge to the Council of Europe to withdraw the troops from Moldova as one of the conditions for Russia’s admission to the CE.
