Nezavisimaya gazeta, which commented May 25 that Zyuganov’s program seemed to owe more to Keynes than to Marx, says copies of the document have been sent to the 13 influential Russian bankers who caused such a stir last month when they appealed to Yeltsin and Zyuganov not to compete but to cooperate. "If the bankers’ reaction is positive, as seems likely, Zyuganov will win a propaganda trump card," the newspaper predicted. "He will be able to argue that the captains of Russian industry support his economic plans or, at any rate, do not reject them." (Nezavisimaya gazeta, May 28)
