Schuyler Van Tassel
Director of Communications
Schuyler Van Tassel is the Director of Communications at The Jamestown Foundation, where he supports the Foundation’s scholars in amplifying their research and ensuring it reaches key policymakers, analysts, and the wider foreign policy community. His work bridges research and communication, helping translate complex analysis into accessible insights that inform real-world decision-making. Schuyler’s interests center on the intersection of public diplomacy, cultural diplomacy, strategic communications, and information operations, particularly how great-power competition over narrative control is reshaping the global information landscape.
He is currently pursuing a Master’s in Intercultural and International Communication at American University’s School of International Service, and received his BA from the George Washington University in International Relations and Music. Before joining Jamestown, he was a Cultural Diplomacy Fellow at the Meridian International Center, and previously worked as an Editorial and Production Intern with the Voice of America’s Africa Division, his first entrance into the field of public diplomacy. He is also a passionate language learner, and speaks Mandarin Chinese, Spanish, Portuguese, French, and is currently learning Russian.
