On October 16, an agreement to restore the educational system in the Chechen Republic was signed in Paris by a deputy chairwoman of the Russian government, Valentina Matvienko, and the general director of UNESCO, Koitro Matsuura. This joint project will be funded in the amount of US$300,000 (Nezavisimaya Gazeta, October 17).
