ECOLOGIST SAYS "NUCLEAR SUITCASES" EXIST.

Aleksei Yablokov, a member of the Russian Academy of Sciences and former chief of the Security Council’s environmental commission, said on October 31 that he personally knew the people who helped build the controversial "nuclear suitcase" weapons. Military and government officials have gone to great lengths to debunk the claim of former Security Council secretary Aleksandr Lebed that some of these weapons might be missing. They have maintained that no such weapons were ever built. Yablokov said he had sent a letter to President Boris Yeltsin on October 27 regarding these explosives and warned that if he did not get a reply he would make public the technical characteristics of the weapons.
