LAPSHIN ATTACKS CHERNOMYRDIN BLOC OVER "EXECUTIONER OF CHECHNYA."

Agrarian Party leader Mikhail Lapshin sharply attacked Viktor Chernomyrdin’s "Russia is Our Home" bloc for incorporating Lt. General Lev Rokhlin on its election list. Lapshin charged that Chernomyrdin had lost all sense of shame by using Rokhlin, "Executioner of Chechnya," whose hands were stained with the blood of thousands of Chechen civilians. Rokhlin, who is presently in command of the 8th Guards Army Corps, was responsible for the capture of the Chechen capital Grozny at the beginning of this year. During the storming of the city under Rokhlin’s command, which lasted many weeks, thousands of civilians were killed by Russian planes and artillery fire. (4)
