MISSION OF THE IMF IN UKRAINE.

A mission of the IMF arrived yesterday in Ukraine to review the performance of the Ukrainian economy under the terms of the current stand-by program. Discussions with the government on a memorandum to apply for new resources within the framework of an Extended Financing Facility (EFF) will also take place. Ukraine expects to obtain $2.5-3 billion if an agreement is reached. (TV Channel Business Russia, 29 October) In a recent conference held in Paris on 24-26 October, donor countries, including Russia, pledged their support to the Ukrainian reform program. According to an adviser to the Ukrainian president, financing needs for 1997 are around $3 billion. (Interfax, 29 October)
