On June 2, Russian foreign minister Andrei Kozyrev told Interfax that Moscow opposes replacing the UN operation in Bosnia with a NATO one or changing the mission of UN forces there. He said any such plans would be “very dangerous.” And on June 4, Yeltsin told French President Jacques Chirac that the Russian government remains firmly committed to “political methods of solving the Bosnia crisis,” Itar-Tass reported. Yeltsin’s comments came when Chirac called the Russian president to inform him about the decision of Western countries to create a rapid deployment force to deal with any crisis in Bosnia.
