RUSSIAN EXPECTS 3.3 MILLION IMMIGRANTS IN 1995-96.

Morethan 3.3 million people will enter Russia over the next two years,many of them ethnic Russians fleeing Central Asia and the Caucasus,Interfax reported July 22. Demographer Natalya Voronina said that2.5 million refugees had already arrived in Russia from the "nearabroad," and she noted that other former Soviet republicsmay be subject to similar refugee flows. Rossiiskaya gazetareported July 21 that Russia also faces a serious problemwith illegal immigrants from the "far abroad," and Moskovskykomsomolets reported July 22 that the Russian government hasdecided to confine all such illegal immigrants in a single andunhealthful region of Moscow.
