Transdniester’s authorities haveannounced that bread rationing will be introduced in Transdniester’scapital Tiraspol and vicinity effective August 24, Reuters reportedAugust 14. Residents will be entitled to 500 grams daily. Themeasure has been in effect for some time in the region’s second-largestcity, Bendery. Transdniester’s authorities, dominated by communists,claim that the bread shortages are caused by trading which theyare seeking to control by maintaining fixed prices.
