Evgeny Gurin

Evgeny Gurin is an expert on the intersection of culture and politics in Eastern Europe and Central Asia.

Evgeny completed his MPhil in Russian and East European Studies at the University of Oxford in 2024 as an Oxford Nizami Ganjavi Centre scholar. His master’s thesis examined how Russian state discourse essentializes and "others" Central Asia, focusing on postcolonial dynamics. He graduated with a BSc in International Relations and History from the London School of Economics in 2021, writing a thesis on Russian audience reception of queer visibility at the Eurovision Song Contest.

He has worked at the International Criminal Court in The Hague, Netherlands, as well as at the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific, Subregional Office for North and Central Asia in Almaty, Kazakhstan. He also has experience in the think tank, NGO, and political risk consulting sectors.

Evgeny is based in Kent, England.
