ANOTHER ATTEMPT TO FORM A PRO-LEBED "THIRD FORCE."

Leaders of three Russian nationalist parties–the Congress of Russian Communities, the Democratic Party of Russia (led by Sergei Glazyev) and the Russian National Union (led by Sergei Baburin) – -are reported to have agreed to form a new movement to be called "Third Force." The name recalls last summer’s failed attempts by three presidential candidates — Aleksandr Lebed, Grigory Yavlinsky and Svyatoslav Fedorov — to form an electoral alliance. The new movement is expected to work for the advancement of Aleksandr Lebed’s political career. Also attending the preliminary meetings was Oleg Rumyantsev, one of the most vocal Russian advocates of unification with Belarus. (Interfax, December 19)
