…BUT WELCOMED BY DUDAYEV´S CAMP.

Chechen president Dzhokhar Dudayev´s chief political representative in Grozny, Khodzhakhmed Yarikhanov, says that the decision to route part of Azeri oil northward is important for Chechnya because the pipeline crosses its territory and will bring the republic "hundreds of millions of dollars" in revenue. Yarikhanov called on the international consortium to coordinate its decisions on the matter with "the republic´s legitimate government." He stressed that far from objecting to the project, the Dudayev government will ensure pipeline security and stable oil transportation, but wants to be a party to the transit agreement. (10)
