K. Tristan Tang

K. Tristan Tang is a Fellow at The Jamestown Foundation. He is also a Research Fellow at the Taiwan Inspiration Association and a Nonresident Fellow at the National Bureau of Asian Research. He is the designer of the KTT’s Wargame, a Kriegsspiel-style simulation system focused on Taiwan Strait contingencies ranging from peacetime quarantine operations to large-scale invasion scenarios.

His research focuses on the People’s Liberation Army and Taiwan’s security. In addition to his extensive work for Jamestown’s China Brief, his work has appeared in publications affiliated with the U.S. Air University, U.S. Naval War College, U.S. Army War College, and The Diplomat. His research and wargaming work have been cited or covered by the U.S.–China Economic and Security Review Commission, Associated Press, The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, CNN, The Economist, Financial Times, The Telegraph, NHK, Taiwan’s Central News Agency, and Liberty Times, among others.

He has briefed international counterparts on his research and organized wargames with the U.S. and Japanese militaries and foreign representative offices in Taiwan. He holds an M.A. in Political Science from National Taiwan University and a B.A. in Public Security from Central Police University.
