ECONOMIC PLAN FOR JANUARY-JUNE 1996 BEING READIED.

First Deputy Prime Minister Anatoly Chubais announced yesterday that the government’s draft economic program for the first half of 1996 envisages curbing inflation as the top priority. Chubais lashed out against a proposal from "communist opponents" to check inflation by keeping prices under government control. Chubais also said he had followed attentively economic articles in the communist newspapers Pravda and Sovetskaya Rossiya. The articles leave a "lamentable impression," and suggest that the Communists would make "catastrophic (economic) mistakes" if they come to power, Chubais said. (6)
