FITUR HEAD SAYS RUSSIA TO HAVE 20 MILLION UNEMPLOYED.

MikhailShmakov, the chairman of the Federation of Independent Trade Unionsof Russia (FITUR), told Obshchaya gazeta in its July 27-August2 issue that there are some five million unemployed in Russiatoday and that 15 million more are likely to lose their jobs inthe near future. Shmakov blamed the government for failing topromote full employment and for failing to protect workers intheir jobs; he said that approximately 7,000 people had died inworkplace accidents in the last year.
