MOLDOVA:

On November 6 some 2,500 mostly elderly members of Moldova’s Party of Communists staged an indoors rally in Chisinau. On the 7th, the same party, and also the Bloc of Popular Patriotic Forces, which counts some 20 Socialist and Communist parliamentary deputies, staged follow-up ceremonies at which they called –like their Ukrainian counterparts — for leftist unity to win Moldova’s upcoming parliamentary elections. November 7 is an official holiday in Transdniester, whose old-line Communist leaders paid homage to Lenin, the USSR, and the Russian military. (Flux, Basapress, November 6-8)
