OIL CONTINUES TO WREAK HAVOC ON JAPANESE COASTLINE.

The news remained grim yesterday for those battling an oil slick from a wrecked Russian tanker, as the areas of Japanese coastline fouled by the spill continued to expand and it was discovered that more oil was leaking from the ruptured vessel. Japanese officials said high winds and rough weather were making containment difficult. A top Japanese government spokesman yesterday denounced what he suggested were half-hearted efforts by Russia to aid in the clean-up. (Reuter, January 16)
