RUSSIAN CONSTITUTIONAL COURT ASKED TO RULE SEVASTOPOL A RUSSIANCITY

. Having turned to the courts over Chechnya, the RussianDuma now has asked the Constitutional Court to issue a rulingon the validity of the Russian Federation Supreme Soviet October1948 decision, making Sevastopol an administrative entity separatefrom the rest of the Crimea, and a July 1993 Duma resolution,unilaterally conferring a "Russian status" on Sevastopol.The chairman of the Duma’s CIS Affairs and Compatriot Relationscommittee, Konstantin Zatulin, said that the Court should reaffirmthe validity of these documents and thereby force the executivebranch to officially raise the issue of Sevastopol with Ukraine,Interfax reported July 12.
