RUSSIAN DIPLOMATS SLAM NEW YORK.

Russia’s Foreign Ministry charged yesterday that New York city police are targeting its diplomats for harassment and that Moscow fears for their safety. The accusation follows a December 29 incident in which police scuffled with a Russian and a Belarusan diplomat. Moscow claims that the two were roughed up; the police say the men were drunk and abusive. New York authorities have since accused UN diplomats from Russia and other former Soviet republics of running up thousands of dollars in unpaid traffic fines. (AP, January 14)
