UKRAINE:

Former Prime Minister Pavlo Lazarenko is back in Ukraine, released from detention in Switzerland on $3 million bail. Swiss police arrested Lazarenko for banking fraud as he entered the country on a Panamanian passport earlier this month. Lazarenko says the charges against him are politically inspired, and he promised to reveal the crimes of his enemies. Lazarenko as a member of parliament is immune from prosecution in Ukraine. He offered to waive his immunity if President Leonid Kuchma and others do likewise.
