Jamestown Senior Fellow Michael W.S. Ryan was interviewed on November 2nd on the death of ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, and what that means for the future of the terrorist organization. Ryan remarks that al-Baghdadi’s death is a major blow to the Islamic State, having been “a symbol of everything that holds the organization together…” However, Ryan points out that the organization and its ideology still exist, and as long as there are followers of ISIS’ specific branch of Salafi-jihadism, there will be a threat of terrorism.
