A VALENTINE CARD FOR NATO FROM MINSK.

Hundreds of members of the Belarusan Popular Front’s youth wing — the Young Front — marched in Minsk on Valentine Day, February 14, under the slogan "I love NATO." Representatives of the demonstrators stopped at Western embassies to hand over statements that the Belarusan democratic opposition and the young generation see the country’s future "under NATO’s protection, and not in the suffocating embrace of the red-brown Russian revanche." (Belapan, February 14; Itar-Tass, February 15) Official Minsk is the only government of a former Soviet republic to have joined Moscow in opposing NATO’s enlargement.
