YELTSIN, KOHL MEET ON BALKAN CRISIS.

Late on September 2 and early on September 3, Russian President Boris Yeltsin and German Chancellor Helmut Kohl conferred at Yeltsin’s Zavidovo residence outside Moscow, mainly on the conflict in ex-Yugoslavia. Russian officials suggested to the media that Kohl did not object to Yeltsin’s proposal for a general, top-level conference in Moscow to settle that conflict. But Kohl told the press before departing that he would agree to the holding of a general conference–without specifying the venue–only if preparatory Contact Group meetings this month ensure that it would result in the signing of peace.
