WINNERS DECLARED IN TURKMEN OFFSHORE TENDERS.

Publication: Monitor Volume: 4 Issue: 116

President Saparmurat Niazov yesterday confirmed the results of two recent international tenders for Turkmen offshore oil and gas fields. Mobil Oil of the United States is the winner of the tender for the Serdar field, whose recoverable reserves are variously estimated at 50-200 million tons of oil. Located–roughly–along the median line between the Turkmen and the Azerbaijani portions of the Caspian Sea, the field is known as Kapaz to Azerbaijan. The two countries seek to settle the field’s status by negotiation.

The British-Chinese consortium Kern Energy-Texuna is the winner of the tender for the Gaplan bloc, whose recoverable reserves are estimated at 80 million tons of oil and 130 billion cubic meters of natural gas. (International agencies, June 16)–VS
