Willy Lam Named Jamestown Foundation Senior Fellow

Jamestown President Glen Howard announced today that Willy Wo-Lap Lam has been named a Senior Fellow for the Foundation’s China Program. Dr. Lam has been a frequent contributor to Jamestown’s China Brief publication since its inception in July 2001.
Willy Lam is a Hong Kong-based China specialist with more than 25 years of experience analyzing and writing about Chinese politics, foreign and military affairs, and China-Taiwan relations. He was based in Beijing from 1986 to 1989, and has held senior editorial positions with regional and international media including Asiaweek, South China Morning Post, and the Asia-Pacific Office of CNN.
Dr. Lam is the author of five books about China, including China after Deng Xiaoping and The Era of Jiang Zemin. He is also in the process of completing a book on the Hu Jintao administration. Dr. Lam holds degrees, including a doctorate in political economy, from the University of Hong Kong, Wuhan University, and the University of Minnesota. He has been awarded visiting fellowships by Columbia University, Murdoch University (Australia) and other academic institutions. Dr. Lam speaks English, Chinese, French and Japanese.
Jamestown President Glen Howard welcomed the addition of Lam as a Senior Fellow and called it a “reflection of Jamestown’s commitment to the analysis of China as part of our expanding program on Eurasia.” In addition, Howard complimented Lam as a “unique source of insight on developments in China whose expertise and timely analyses are widely followed by many observers in Asia and the United States.”
