CRIMEAN PARLIAMENT SACKS LEADERS.
Publication: Monitor Volume: 3 Issue: 26
Internecine squabbling has paralyzed Ukraine’s Crimea. Yesterday, the Crimean parliament sacked its entire leadership — the presidium of the Supreme Soviet which includes Speaker Vasily Kiselev, his deputies, and the heads of the standing commissions. The fight has been brewing for some time and springs not from political differences but from rivalries between different business interests (some of them criminal) that back the various parliamentary factions. (Itar-Tass, Interfax, February 5) It seems only a matter of time before Kiev will be forced to intervene to restore order.
