NAZARBAEV ACCUSES RUSSIAN CIRCLES OF DESIGNS ON KAZAKSTAN.

Kazak president Nursultan Nazarbaev has told the country on television that the Russian leadership’s policy toward Kazakstan "today is all right, thank God." However, "there are many ill-wishers [who] have drawn up plans, if not to go back to the Soviet Union, then to bring Kazakstan back under Russia’s wing." Those circles seek to "suppress Kazakstan’s economy…deny it access to external markets…make Kazakstan quarrel with its neighbors…discredit Nazarbaev so that a wrong person who supports Russia will come along…[and] if that does not work, stir up ethnic Russians living in Kazakstan and set them against Kazaks…The country should know about this… Our people should be ready to preserve the country’s independence and integrity," Nazarbaev stated.
