Publication: Monitor Volume: 3 Issue: 119
Ukrainian president Leonid Kuchma has agreed to a proposal by his Moldovan counterpart, Petru Lucinschi, to begin talks on the deployment of Ukrainian peacekeepers in Transdniester. Kuchma informed Lucinschi that he has instructed Ukrainian government agencies to form a working group and to begin talks with a parallel Moldovan group on details of the mission. First reported by Ukrainian embassy officials in Chisinau yesterday, Kuchma’s letter was then confirmed informally by Moldovan officials. (Ukrainian agencies, Monitor interviews, June 17)
