Publication: Monitor Volume: 3 Issue: 108
Harold Nicholson, the highest-ranking CIA officer ever caught spying, has cooperated extensively with government investigators and is likely to get less than 24 years in prison rather than a life sentence, federal prosecutors indicated yesterday. Nicholson has told investigators that he started spying in June, 1994, and that he received $300,000 from Moscow. He reportedly had four overseas meetings with Russian officials at which he passed secret documents. (AP, June 3)
