MOSCOW CRITICIZES EXTRADITION OF BOSNIAN SERB MILITARY LEADERS.

The Russian Foreign Ministry has called the detention of Bosnian Serb leaders and their extradition to The Hague "unacceptable." It also described the action as "dangerous" and said that it "will do nothing to facilitate the implementation of the peace agreement" in Bosnia. The comments followed the extradition of Bosnian Serb General Djordje Djukic and Colonel Aleksa Krsmanovic to The Hague, where prosecutors for the UN International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia will decide whether to charge them with committing atrocities. The two were flown from Sarajevo to The Hague on the evening of February 12. Moscow claimed to be holding consultations with its partners in the Contact Group — the U.S., France, Germany, and Britain — regarding the extradition, and also sent an inquiry to The Hague. The Russian Foreign Ministry will make a special statement on the matter tomorrow. The Foreign Ministry also announced yesterday its preference for an early end to UN sanctions on the Bosnian Serbs.
