POLISH MINISTER’S RESIGNATION PROMPTS DIFFERENT RESPONSES.

Russian deputy foreign minister Sergei Krylov yesterday decried the possibility that the resignation of Polish prime minister Jozef Oleksy might disrupt relations between Warsaw and Moscow. Oleksy resigned January 24 after military prosecutors in Poland launched a formal investigation into allegations that he had spied for Soviet and Russian intelligence. Russian policy vis-a-vis Poland is based on interests rather than personalities, with Moscow prepared to "work with any Polish prime minister," said the Russian deputy minister. Meanwhile, a Russian foreign intelligence service spokesman labeled the Oleksy affair an outright political provocation and denied that Soviet intelligence had recruited agents in Poland. (9)
