Tel Aviv is confident that the appointment of Russian foreign minister Yevgeny Primakov will not disturb Russian-Israeli relations, Israel’s ambassador to Russia said yesterday. Aliza Shenhar said the disintegration of the USSR had brought Moscow from a policy of "support for Arab extremists to a constructive dialogue with all parties" in the Middle East. She expressed the hope that Primakov, a specialist in Middle Eastern affairs, might contribute to the peace process in the region, while citing Russia’s intention to build nuclear reactors in Iran as the point of sharpest friction between Moscow and Tel Aviv.
