KIEV WILL KEEP PEACEKEEPERS IN BOSNIA.
Publication: Monitor Volume: 2 Issue: 3
The Ukrainian government confirmed yesterday that Ukraine would keep its 550-man peacekeeping unit in Bosnia. The government reconfirmed a December 30 Foreign Ministry statement to the same effect. Both announcements discounted speculation that Ukraine would recall the unit due to lack of financing. Ukrainian troops are expected to transfer to the Sarajevo area and be placed under French command. Kiev cited international prestige and responsibility as reasons for maintaining its presence in Bosnia, but seeks ways to offset the cost. (6)
