LATVIAN PARTIES SET TO RECONSTITUTE COALITION GOVERNMENT.

Following the September 30/October 1 legislative elections in which they lost seats, the five parties and blocs of the outgoing governing coalition are discussing its renewal as a minority government. Four parties and blocs, mostly considered "right-wing," have lost no time forming a coalition which holds 29 parliamentary seats and proposes to renew the partnership with the right-of-center Latvia’s Way party of Prime Minister Maris Galis, which holds 17 seats in the 100-seat parliament. The coalition expects an early call from president Guntis Ulmanis to form the new government. (12)
