YEREVAN SEEKS TO EXTEND SUSPENSION OF DASHNAK PARTY.

Armenia’sdeputy justice minister Dikran Petrosian told Radio Liberty August16 that his ministry had petitioned the Armenian Supreme Courtto extend the suspension of the Armenian Revolutionary Federationfor an additional year. Petrosian said that ARF (Dashnaks) hadfailed to modify its program and behavior and thus, accordingto Armenian law, must be suspended for another year. Meanwhile,at the trial of the so-called Dro terrorist group which the Armeniangovernment has linked to the Dashnak organization, several ofthe defendants, all of whom have pleaded innocent, said that theirreported "confessions" had been extracted by force andwere thus null and void.
