AIRCRAFT PLANT SENDS WORKERS HOME.
Publication: Monitor Volume: 2 Issue: 187
The "Aviakor" joint-stock company in Samara sent its workers on forced leave until the end of the year because it has no orders for its Tu-154 jet airliners. They have not been paid since February. Aviakor was the only Russian aircraft company to sell any aircraft in 1995, when it sold 9 Tu-154Ms. It had planned to produce 20 this year. The plant announced it would have to layoff 2,000 workers in an upcoming major retrenchment. (ITAR-TASS, October 7 1996)
