ZYUGANOV REACTS TO YELTSIN HEALTH ANNOUNCEMENT.
Publication: Monitor Volume: 2 Issue: 165
Russian Communist party leader Gennady Zyuganov has reacted to President Yeltsin’s admission that he is suffering from heart disease by demanding top-level consultations between the cabinet, the speakers of the two houses of the Russian parliament, and the leaders of the various parliamentary factions. Zyuganov said such a mechanism was required to ensure that officials did not "misuse the president’s sickness for their own purposes." (Interfax, BBC World Service, September 6) This seems to be thinly veiled reference to Presidential Chief-of-Staff Anatoly Chubais and National Security Adviser Aleksandr Lebed.
