RENEWED CONCERN ABOUT YELTSIN’S HEALTH.

President Boris Yeltsin has canceled three trips outside Moscow in recent days and his failure to show up this morning at a scheduled Moscow meeting has prompted fear that the election campaign is taking a toll on his health. Prime Minister Chernomyrdin acknowledged that Yeltsin was under strain and said campaigning had caused him to lose his voice, but denied that the president was seriously ill. The presidential office reiterated that there was no cause for alarm and there has so far been no suggestion that next week’s runoff should be postponed. (BBC World Service, June 28)
