YELTSIN CAMP LIKENS ZYUGANOV TO HITLER…

The Yeltsin camp has launched a vicious and highly personalized attack on the president’s main challenger in the election race, Communist party leader Gennady Zyuganov. Millions of copies of a broadsheet comparing Zyuganov to Adolf Hitler were yesterday distributed throughout Russia in mailboxes and as a supplement to the business newspaper Kommersant. Entitled "Ne dai Bog!" (God forbid!), the broadsheet contains an article headed "Zyug Heil!" in which Zyuganov’s nationalist statements are compared to Hitler’s racist slogans. (Financial Times, May 31) The Communist party has complained bitterly about the publication but so far without effect.
