A Russian Duma delegation, led by Duma Speaker Gennady Seleznev, began several days of talks with party and government leaders in North Korea May 27. The delegation is expected to be received today by Vice President Li Jong Ok, but will apparently not meet with North Korean president Kim Jong Il. Following the first day’s meetings, Seleznev suggested that both sides were pleased over what he described as progress "after four years of cool relations." The North Korean side was said to be heartened by a warming apparent in Moscow’s position during the first meeting of the Russian-North Korean intergovernmental commission for trade, economic, scientific, and technical cooperation, held in Pyongyang in April.
